Metalac office building

Competition entry for proposal of the new Metalac Office building in Gornji Milanovac, Serbia. 1998. ~ 4000m²

Company is one of the main producers of casseroles, pots, and pans in Serbia. For their factory in Gornji Milanovac they needed a new office building that would represent their successful growth and placement as the leading brand in the region.

A design competition was a good idea since it would produce some good designs for a fraction of a market price.

I was very optimistic in thinking that my deconstructivist philosophy would bring me fame and fortune in this prosperous competition ... but it would only show how sterile designs win competitions in my country.

Zig - zag design of the facade claded with travertine stone and windows made of PVC profiles color coated in red, green, yellow and blue, together with blue tegolla canadesse roof cover, brought sense of joy in my architectural playing with colors and elements. On top of one side of the building I decided to place a simulation of a coffee pot, that was in fact a glass covered roof on top of a atrium three stories high. Maybe when I look back, in those days I was influenced by James Sterling's Staad gallery in Germany.
