Nursing home for senior care in Valjevo, Serbia.

Competition entry for proposal of the new Nursing Home for Senior Care in Valjevo, Srbia. 2003 ~ 20000m²

Situated at the top of a hill looking at city of Valjevo below, meant placing a complex structure on a steeply configured terrain. It wasn't an easy task to perform especially because certain groups of occupants needed special care and the building had to comply with building codes for handicapped people. This meant that horizontal and vertical communications (ramps, stairs and elevators) had to be carefully planned.

The compound consists of indoor and outdoor activities. On the outside there are: parking areas for visitors and for employees, hidden driveway  for undertakers vehicle (special care is taken that the occupants of the nursing home do not see the vehicle passing by as it can cause stress to them), a driveway for supplies, four different open terraces adjacent to cafe's and restaurants, an amphitheater and carefully designed paths with benches for long strolls in the open.

The interior of the building is designed to suite different categories of old people, those that can take care of themselves to handicapped and immobile persons.

For each group of old people there are micro spaces ( from 3 star to 5 star type hotel services ) designed just for them and their special needs. From a president suite to a four bedroom with a living area and bath.

Another area that is unique to this building is the hospital wing with all contents of middle sized hospitals.

I am very proud of designing this competition entry in 30 days because I was among very few single participants competing - most were teams.
